OPTICAL SHOP LASKARIS, KIFISSIA

Transparency, semi-transparency, opaque and reflection are the main characteristics of the eye, as well as the design principles of the new optical store, in the centre of Kifissia in Athens.
The optical shop is divided in two levels: the ground floor that operates as a public sale space and the mezzanine where the ophthalmological office, the laboratory and a lounge area are located in.
The division of the ground floor in two zones  -circulation and display area-becomes directly noticeable, via the contrast of the materials. The opacity of the dark grain of wood contradict the transparency and the icy-hued colors of plexiglas and the reflection of the mirror, bringing into the mind the contrast between the sclera and the pupil in the fields of the eye.
White ribbons of corian unfold from the ceiling, shaping the service counters at the ground level.  The wide use of mirrors, located in specific points of the place, not only enlarge the small interior, resulting an effect of infinitive depth, but also reflect the rich vegetation of the context.
